About Rachel

My name is Rachel Abraham and I am a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from the United States. I have been working with children since 1990.

For the past twenty three years, I have been teaching students with specific learning difficulties at international schools in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Philippines and Malaysia. I have substantial knowledge in working with elementary school students with mild to moderate learning needs using the American and British curriculum as well as the International Baccalaureate Primary and Middle Years Programmes.

I have vast experience working within a multi-tiered system focused on collaboration, data-driven decision-making, providing individualized and differentiated instruction utilizing research-based educational practices, and forging strong home-school partnerships. I am a strong proponent of early intervention and is skilled in designing tailor-made individualized interventions.

I spent twelve years coordinating and managing the daily operations of the Special Needs Program at two international schools in Malaysia which included revamping and designing the programs, developing provisions for elementary, middle and high school students, liaising with support services, advising teachers and parents etc.

I have worked in consultation with school administration to address social emotional needs and provided counseling to primary aged students. I designed units of study and planned lessons for the Social Emotional Learning curriculum for students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. I have mentored and trained teachers and teacher assistants in using strategies and planning and delivering lessons.

In addition, I have three and half years offering private consultancy providing special educational needs services to local and expat families living in the local community which included providing individualized learning programs for students with a range of special educational needs, advising families in setting up home programs, supporting families in working collaboratively with schools, providing testing services and liaising with schools and specialist support services. I had the opportunity to serve as as an educational consultant for Asia Education Resource Consortium (AERC) serving expat families and travelled to remote areas to conduct educational assessments for students with learning needs.

I offer online instruction for primary aged learners who require individualized and intensive support in developing foundational literacy skills such as phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, reading, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, handwriting. My area of specialization is helping struggling readers. I also provide high quality Math instruction.

The methodology I employ include providing consistent, evidence-based, explicit, multi-sensory and systematic intervention following a scope and sequence that is matched to the ability of your child's ability. The one-to-one setting allows your child to move at his or her own pace, while still retaining the skills. I use assessment data to determine the starting point of the intervention and to devise the best plan for your child. I conduct ongoing progress monitoring that allows for continuous feedback to you, as parents.

My goal is for your child to experience success through a tailor-made plan for him or her. I strive to change the trajectory of your child's life. It is my passion!
